Electric Cadillacs will have formal names

Cadillac posted news that its electric models will not be part of the CTx or XTx naming convention. Instead they will have former names, such as Escalade.

So by 2020 we will be reading new Cadillac models that will be 100% electric, not PHEVs such as the ELR or CT6.

BTW, I did see a red ELR in the Sawgrass Mills parking lot at Fort Lauderdale, Fl, this month (April 5th). My wife loved the style but decided against getting one after I explained that it was discontinued.

I was a big fan of the Elmiraj concept and had a feeling it would lead to this.
In the process of killing off ICE vehicles its a good strategy. Do you think the Elmiraj name will live on in production form?

I hope so, since the newer Cadillac models all share some of the Elmraj and Escala features, especially the headlights and grille.

I found the Cadillac article about the EV names:
Cadillac: Future Electric Cars Need New Names | GM Authority

I do expect the first Cadillac EV to be announced before the end of this year. Maybe it will be based on the new Bolt EUV platform.

Tricky part will be coming up with names that belong with eachother.
Chevrolet does it well but there hasn't been too many new ones, most reused.
Cadillac on the other hand will have to get very creative with all the new models to come.
