Diesel engines to join the lineup?

As most on here know, the 2019 XT4 is available with just a single engine option (2.0l turbo 4). It's safe to assume that an electrified model will join at some point down the line, but apparently some new spy shots from Europe hint at a possible turbo diesel too. No physical proof from the photos but the photographers claim the engine idle was noticeably louder. https://www.carscoops.com/2019/03/pa...-diesel-power/

Why go back to ancient technology? Turbo Diesel engines may be economical for those who have a source of cheap fuel, such as cooking oil recycling, but the best is hybrid now and electric later. Besides, Diesel engines have their own new set of problems and troubleshooting, such that even Volkswagen, the world's largest Diesel producer, is swapping them for electric power.

I doubt there will be XT4 customers for this engine type.

Not a fan of diesels especially during a time that GM should massively roll out hybrid powertrains till they can launch more EV's.

I do not understand why certain brands are continuing to invest in diesel products, especially with the huge drop in buyers. Both Porsche and BMW have already said they wont be offering diesels in future models and thats a mindset all brands should take.

There will be a fairly radically shift at some point in the 2020's, especially with the governmental changes we are seeing in regards to ICE's. There is a good chance that within the next decade that diesels engines are banned outright in certain parts across the glove.
