Cadillac will be adding Super Cruise across their lineup

It looks like Cadillac will not only be expanding its autonomous Super Cruise system across all of their models, but we will also see it offered on some GM products as well. This new feature will be available starting in 2020, though I wonder if they plan on offering it as standard or an additional option. Imo this system is way better than Tesla's autopilot, for the sole reason that it has safety measures in place to prevent misuse.

Tesla's system isn't the problem, it comes down to people being lazy and not reading the fine print. I know many who have an are completely happy with all its strong points in autopilot mode.

Tesla's naming of the system is indicative that the car can drive itself, which it cant. I know a lot of the recent crashes we have seen as of late are due to user error, but the majority of them that we've seen have been with autopilot engaged. I do think Super Cruise will do a lot in gaining consumer interest in their lineup, though its probably going to be an additional option.

Its a constant battle because from one end you have marketing needs that suggest it should fall under a certain name and the other end where you don't want to call it something bland.
At this point its only a matter of consumer education.

Well consumer education can be very expensive, and that's probably why it makes more sense to build barriers to abuse directly into the technology. The fact that Tesla owners we're able to buy the Autopilot Buddy, which removed the need to intermittently touch the wheel is ridiculous. Luckily it looks like NHTSA has banned that device from sale in NA.

When its something you know you'll not be covered for then it becomes easy to understand. But I agree, car makers need to dumb it down because as rivals like BMW, Mercedes and the like have stronger products, it'll set Tesla back even more.

Its not a matter of dumbing down the systems, its ensuring that there are proper safeguards in place, which prevent people from tuning out while the car is in motion. Tesla's Autopilot system really doesn't require much interaction from the drive to stay active, and we've seen just how many accidents have occurred as a result.

That is part of dumbing down the process, its why car makers have everything from cameras that watch your eyes and takes in random data points about you. Done right the best case scenario is the vehicle comes to a stop when the driver is absent.

Cadillac is the first automaker to release an autonomous system that monitors your eye movement. They were well aware of the shortcomings found with Tesla's autopilot and wanted to take preventative measures.

Technically they at a bit a behind. Gesture controls are what this tech comes down to, reading body cues. Hyundai revealed it a number of years ago in the original genesis concept.
